The Unique Gents, a non-profit organization founded in 1970, represents a coalition of men of color from East Nashville who are dedicated to giving back to the community. With a focus on community service and a passion for men's fashion, they are coming soon with new initiatives to further their impact.
The organization seeks to empower senior citizens and young people
of all ages, ethnicity and heritage that reside in the Greater Nashville
Area.
The organization endeavors to bridge the gap that currently exist
between the youth and the seniors in the community.
The Gents will accomplish this through the development and
implementation of programs and initiatives that will aid and support
our Senior Citizens and provide direction, leadership and inspiration
to our youth.
Our programs and initiatives will involve mentoring, the development
of life skills, positive guidance and emotional support to the youth and
their families.
In addition, the Gents will exhibit unity in the community by
partnering with other faith- based people of color dedicated and
committed to the youth and Seniors of the Greater Nashville
community; to help support develop and maintain good moral values
through mentoring and providing positive life experience.

Mr. Edward M. Mullins was an advocate, role-model, disciplinarian, and father
figure to many of the current members of the Unique Gents. He had a
tremendous influence on their growth and development and it’s out of
respect for his legacy that Unique Gents united as adult men to serve
as a resource for the Greater Nashville community.

Real Men Initiative
This program is designed to provide alternative options for youth to
consider the prospects for a successful future. In the midst of negative
influences that can affect their wholesome physical and spiritual
development, the Unique Gents feel it is imperative for youth to be
exposed to positive role-models, mentors and information that impact
their ability to make healthy choices regarding their transition into
adulthood.
The Unique Gents recognize the important mission of influencing the
youth of today in a positive manner. Their commitment also extends to
the senior citizen community by paying homage to those individuals who
made sacrifices and paved the way for many of the opportunities that we
enjoy today.
The Unique Gents consider it to be an important responsibility of the
organization’s members to devote time to serving the senior citizens of
the community. Too often, the contributions of senior citizens go
unrecognized and they are not given proper credit for their contributions
to society.
To pay tribute to the senior citizen, the Unique Gents plan and coordinate
activities that include the following:
The Unique Gents have recognized the Metro Nashville Public Schools & the
Board of Parks and Recreation Department and its staff as valuable
community resource to partner and collaborate with regarding program
coordination. The Metro Parks Community Centers have proven to be a
successful venue for community outreach to youth and senior citizens of
the Nashville community.
Mentor sessions create an environment where youth can interact with
leaders and professionals from various segments of the community; to
generate dialogue and present career and lifestyle options for them to
consider.
Discussion Topics will include:

The members of the Unique Gents are motivated by their camaraderie that is guided by their spiritual connection based on strength, unity, brotherhood, faith and community service.
